A children's film about mechanized genocide.
Not as good as the first.
A children's film about mechanized genocide.
Not as good as the first.
Why?
Why make this a musical?
Few of the songs are memorable, they are poorly done, and they add nothing to the whole schema. I somewhat enjoyed "El Mal" with its critique of hypocrisy (which is promptly forgotten about), but the rest? Nah. Excise that crap; and I say this as a lover of musicals.
Is this the train-wreck I was expecting? Not quite. Yes, its politics of representation are more than wanting (heck, even I can tell about the mismatched accents), but I somewhat admired the sheer messy audaciousness of the whole thing. I'm a sucker for melodrama, and this certainly has it in abundance.
Twin Caterpies use string shot on giant lizard. Awesome!
Apparently the song the twins sing is a Japanese-inflected Indonesian. Neat!
Egg man is the best. Yum!
But be prepared to hear the same music cues over and over again... yet not nearly as much as the same Godzilla cry. Skreeeeonk!
