  For a cash-grab sequel to a classic, Psycho II is better than it has any right to be. Perkins is stellar as an older, more psychologically complicated Bates tortured by the awareness of what he did in the past and the fear of slipping back into madness. The colours pop, adding a new dimension and beauty to the Bates abode in particular. I’m glad that the screenplay quickly abandons it’s heavy-handed attempts at political commentary in the opening scenes, heading instead…
