The first film I’ve watched that I was sure was a 6 star.
The 3D was well worth the price of admission and I really enjoyed this a lot more on rewatch, especially now that I know the film is the first part of a multiple film series.
I think I gained a deeper sense of how much the film was focused on the messianic prophecy and the conflict between dreams themselves as prophetic hallucinations or rather deceptive illusions. Plus, I really enjoyed Chalamet and Ferguson a lot more this time around, including…
“The last time I saw Kiarostami, he told me ‘Don’t do anything you don’t want to,’ he knew you couldn’t depend on time. Ultimately, that time has to be worth it, even if it’s just existing... breathing.”
Scorsese filming in portrait mode on his iPhone is a nice touch. Guess dude like hamburgers more than hot dogs. Plus, it’s refreshing to get this sort of wisdom straight from the director and take a glance of what the man we collect collects for himself and the movies he’s spending time with in quarantine.
