“When’s the last time you picked your feet in Poughkeepsie?”

Still the best car chase in movie history and for my money gene hackman’s best performance.

I remember director William Friedkin writing about the making of this film in his autobiography and when discussing ideas for who should play Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle Friedkin and producer Philip D’Antoni kept naming famous movie stars to which studio head Richard Zanuck replied “you don’t need a star for this…you just need a good actor!.”  I think it’s fair to say they succeeded in finding a good actor.

Probably one of the best movies about making movies and the creative process in general.

For anyone who thinks that Lily-Rose Depp is getting by solely on nepotism and doesn’t think that she’s a talented actress I would recommend you watch this movie. Lily-Rose Depp carries this movie as far as I’m concerned. Bill Skarsgard disappears in the role of Count Orlok. The idea of vampirism as a metaphor for a plague and disease is not a new idea but it certainly has relevance in our post-Covid world. With a keen visual eye and an outstandingly talented cast Robert Eggers gives us a vampire story we can all sink our teeth into. 🧛🏻
