  this film is fascinating in how romantic and impressionistic it is. none of the details matter (which is good, because the plot is mostly nonsense and technical military acronyms like “OPSEC” and “SAC”). this film is all about how it feels to see a go-fast boat cutting through the water, or palm trees swaying in the dim light of 4am. it’s about neon blue light under a bridge or a magenta sky or a whirlwind romance after a trip to cuba.

  the whole film is about a vibe. and the vibe is immaculate.

  i know this is considered lesser than the first two, but the whole scene with everyone playing chan’s family is so funny. bill tung in drag playing an old lady is hilarious even if i can’t understand mandarin or cantonese.

  also some of the most insane stunt work ever put to film in the finale of this movie.
