I have a handful of thoughts on this.
- I’m very glad that this movie was made. Covid shut down pre-production.
-I love the 16mm. The grain, contrasted with the costuming and lighting, really captures the early 90’s in a way that American cinema struggles to do sans The Holdovers.
- China deserves their own Memories of Murder. Although, the detective ranges closer to the Japanese hit Cure.
- the cinematography makes this. The writing is fine but the camera work is unreal. I commend the crew for it.
