One of the questions that remains unanswered about humanity is what truly happens after death. Some maintain that we go to either a divine place with eternal joy or a place that our minds can only shiver to imagine — and others simply believe that as our bodies sink toward the earth, life ends there. Religion has long dictated or at the very least provided a lens in which humanity shapes their lives around in some way, and "Heretic" challenges the organizational aspect of it that simply involves the infallible nature of trust.

Beauty may only run skin deep but in the entertainment industry, it consumes your entire being — at least that's how Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) feels, especially on her 50th birthday. Being a successful and beautiful Hollywood star with her own aerobics show, her IT factor seems to be fizzling away, especially for her producer Harvey (Dennis Quaid) who's already looking for a younger replacement.

An experimental film from a haunter's perspective, there's a different kind of horror that emanates from a family's unresolved conflict and trauma. The audience sees the household and the family (Rebekah, Chris, and their teenage kids Tyler and Chloe) through an observer's lens, sometimes through a more "unpertrubed" point of view, and other times the observer clearly inserts themself in the family's life, for better or worse.

I initially thought the titular figure's perspective/camera work was a bit gimmicky, but…

Initially seems like a pretty "simple" premise about two teens switching bodies with each other, but it goes beyond that and gets actually a little complex with the time travel aspect.

Every scene portrays a stunning representation or interpretation of either aspects of the rural or city life of Japan, and Taki & Mitsuha bond and learn about the different cultures they aren't usually exposed to in their own bodies.

I think some parts were a little hard to get into…

Bargain basement Annihilation x the Outlast games.

Had quite a bit of potential but the film's tiptoes into action, romance, sci-fi, and horror are all pretty lackluster. Two snipers, Levi and Drasa, respectively guard the west and east side of a covert gorge. They aren't supposed to communicate but eventually cave in — and despite representing "opposite" forces who are used to following orders, their connection propels them to look beyond the gorge and whatever next mission they automatically trot…

Recently read the English translation of Ryu Murakami's Audition novel which I loved, and I'm super impressed by this film adaptation. There are some differences that I think were well-suited for the cinema experience, some were hazier and others were clearer.

Asami's motive was explicitly made to the audience unlike the book, but what really amazed me was the sequence of flashbacks in the last 40 minutes in relation to Asami's past, personality,…
