Suburbia 1983
Was not the night I wanted to see an opening punk show with some casual sexual assault played seemingly for the laffs (/for the shock?) as well as multiple small children being killed on screen and lots of reference to child abuse, sexual and otherwise. I see what it was going for, but I was not the audience for it (I am almost a bit surprised it has gotten such uniformly positive reviews from critics/audiences, and I’m wondering what is mediating me to respond so differently… well, I mean, I have some idea).
