If you read a negative review of this film, it may have been penned by a descendant of a Confederate soldier. The narrative since Appomattox, for the South, is to glorify the righteousness of their evil cause. And for over 160 years, they've been trying to erase this embarrassment to that narrative. Not all southerners were seditious traitors. As for the film. If you like history, you'll like it. If not, you probably won't. But you will learn about a man who is slowly being erased from history.

While this was a beautifully shot film, it really didn't do much for me. Maybe it was the fact that Anne Hathaway seemed ill suited for the role, or it just came across as too modern an approach to telling a story that should have been much more prim.
