About two immigrant brothers struggling to keep their restaurant afloat and they have one more shot at a big party to ignite interest in it and pull them back from the brink. This was a lot of fun. Tonally it is all over the place, but Gosling is magnetic and the action was really well done. It's a bit long and the plot is a little unwieldy, but it delivers on making it a very entertaining watch. I feel like all the pieces are there to take this movie to an even higher tier, but its got some shaggy edges that felt out of place. Still just a really good time.

This is a self-filtering film. The type of people that want to sit through a 7 hour, glacially paced, nihilistic philosophical statement are probably going to rate it highly. I see nothing special about anything here. It's broadly boring, abusive to its viewers (and to cats), and lifeless. Needless to say, this movie wasn't for me. For a certain film fan who likes their movies moving incredibly slowly and who has a lot of time on their hands, I guess maybe its not the worst thing in the world.

A sprawling look at one German family from just after the first World War up until the early 80s. Because this was more of a mini-series it has time to spread out and explore many different social, political and relational themes. We are introduced to many characters and see them age, see them fall in love, see them succeed, and see them fail. I became intertwined in their lives, harboring an affection for them and their outcomes.

    Because there was…
