I think ultimately people are always gonna be a bit divided on what they get out of a movie like this when you weigh the context given vs. the lack thereof. But in telling the story of this particular fling in the life of Anora, I’m content with the direction Baker went with it.
My favorite part has to be all of the pure chaos. Say what you want about who deserves Best Picture, but I can certainly see why…
The beginning kicked off as kinda mid as I had to get used to Hamish Linklater as Lincoln and Patton Oswalt as a Union soldier (meme) but in the end this series was EXCELLENT.
After reading the book first, I was impressed how factual they kept the story and was also surprised by the extra context they threw in pre- and post-assassination. Anthony Boyle was a fantastic JWB. Tobias Menzies executed his role as Stanton brilliantly; great American accent and all (BUT WHERE WAS THE BIG BURLY BEARD???)
Even the dude that played Andrew Johnson cooked (racist ahh)

So much complexity underneath all that fabric, a beautiful watch. You kind of just have to sit there and cringe at all the toxic masculinity, then be left too stunned to speak as you unpack the ending.
