The cynic turned believer story done (in my opinion), far better than Kubrik’s the Shining. The pacing is great. John Cusack gives one of my favorite performances of his. Where the Shining built the entirety of it’s runtime on the growing boldness of the spirits haunting the Overlook hotel. This film is much more clever, in how it uses its main character’s backstory to frighten him through the course of the film. We learn about this character through the ways…

Flawless 1999
One of my favorite queer films, De Niro and Hoffman give two of the best performances of their career in my opinion. While the films main character is full of hate bigotry and homophobia, and while his vocabulary does not really change from beginning to end, this film definitely handles the complexities of the gay community very well. Joe Schumacher’s dialogue is also brilliant.

March 9th: A little on the nose but, overall, a fun sci fi film with some great performances. Robert Pattinson is great playing dual roles as is Naomi Ackie (who i fell in love with from Blink Twice). Bong Joon Ho always excels at bringing us clever creature designs and thought provoking corrupt class system stories (as we’ve seen with ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘The Host’) and this film is no exception. Another great performance is Mark Ruffallo who plays a corrupt, cotton mouth talking politician with a silly haircut (no relation). Definetly couldve been less heavy handed but overall it was a fun flick!
