Very much lacking as an emotional film about grief and drags for longer than it needs to. At least the very large number of old people in the theater seemed to like it

    ★★★½

The Actor, directed by Anomalisa co-director Duke Johnson, is a film that totally feels like Charlie Kaufman. I loved the surreal quality it brought to the story and especially the production design. And I love the idea of the two central character having singular roles while everyone else plays various characters. At the same time, the story’s emotional resonance could’ve been more grounded. It feels aimless at times.

Tbh the biggest mindfuck was Ryan Gosling as an executive producer

John Carpenter’s The Thing meets Event Horizon dripped in the neon colors of Mandy. Flying Lotus has a trippy sense of musical and visual style. Too bad the story is sluggish and derivative

Fun time! This goes to show that you can’t (usually) go wrong with Looney Tunes

    Anyway, fuck David Zaslav

Bong Joon Ho’s latest romp Mickey 17 is actually pretty great. It is arguably his most commercial blockbuster-y film, but you still get the sense of visual and narrative sense. It’s like the film is part social satire, part environmentalist message, and part mortal existentialism wrapped in a sci-fi dark comedy. It takes some time really getting into it, but it clicks eventually.

Also, Robert Pattinson’s dual performance as Mickeys 17 and 18 is undeniably great. I just love how distinct and personable the two are.
