  People coming out of trauma find community in art, new wave feels no different in this community traumatized by violence abroad and at home. The archival footage and music was my absolute favorite. It felt so special to see people from that community and from that time live their lives.

  This movie treats trans identity and experience like it's still 1992. A secretive, dark mystery that's so outside the norm it's the catalyst of all the characters' downfall.

  Eurocentric stories like this also bother the hell out of me when they pretend to center their stories on the people of foreign countries who are victims of violence without any care or insight into the people of those countries already doing the work the filmmakers pretend doesn't already exist or conveniently…

  I have very little faith in the Academy, but if the Oscars were open to a lot and got really cool about a lot of things real fast, Poor Things would have the greatest chance of a near sweep this year.
