Yeahh man, not everything needs to be a Moonlight. Well acted, directed and shot films like this deserve just as much praise. David Johnson is slowly becoming one of my favourite working actors today and Vivian Oparah killed this too. There's also something magical about black film and tv out of the UK that shines through the most here.
Close is how I’d describe this, uncomfortably, fuck it, devastatingly close.
Minari doesn’t rely on any tropes or climatic events to push its narrative forward. Instead it locks its audience in a position in which they cannot look away, look away from the redundancies, the discomfort, boredom, resentment, anger, love, support and happiness, everything that comes with family. The audience has no choice but to live with these people for their triumphs and struggles. If you want a hard hitting drama with realistic family dynamic MUST WATCH.
Other motivations for the this include its perfect cinematography, ICONIC score, amazing performances. Yeah it’s a masterpiece.
