Feels like the result of a dozen favors getting called in. No one really wanted to make this, but they had to because a handful of people were owed something by another handful of people. It's barely anything on its own. Just a byproduct of the movie business. Industrial waste. It's clear at least a few people were having fun making it though and so it isn't just pure slop. It's kind of vaguely entertaining about 30% of the time, but mostly it just feels like this thing needed to be out the door, in theaters, and forgotten as quick as possible.

Sort of a proto Chainsaw Man, except Chainsaw Man has things like themes and character development. They could only think of one character motivation in this and they used it for two characters.
The CGI is insane. Everything looks so good, and some shots even look real at first blush. The monster designs are so unique and the way they get blasted, sliced open, crushed, and partially deleted by a weaponized Star Trek transporter is jaw-dropping. The plot is mind-numbing lazy anime bullshit, but it's 100% worth watching for its style and the incredibly cool ideas at its core.

You learn that Maurice very seriously dreamed of riding a canoe down a lava flow, and once took a cheap raft onto…
