David Lynch crafts a captivating narrative that is both non-linear and oddly enthralling, leaving the viewers with a sense of uncertainty regarding the conclusion. He does an exceptional job capturing a dream-like atmosphere through the majority of the movie’s duration. Diane escapes into her “dream world” to cope with the harsh reality of her life, and the ending reveals the truth about her real-world experiences, one with a terrible lesbian situation-ship. 😖 There was great use of symbolism, especially of the box, as it represents her repressed trauma and hidden truth, is an effective way of portraying dissociated memories.

The ending left a strong impression on me. None of his issues were really resolved by the end of the movie. His sister leaving for college, friendships fading, his father’s absence, and his grandmother's physical health rapidly deteriorating, all of these problems leave him to simply cope with the situation. The only present figure in his life is his mother, which is seen by the end of the movie, as she gazes at him across the table with pure love in her eyes. As the movie ends with a shot of Chris’s face, it also marks the absence of the immature boy he was.
