  This gets an extra half star for being one of the first films of 1998 that got people interested in anything besides Titanic. I worked in a theater at the time and couldn't wait for the Titanic reign to end. I still have a visceral reaction when I hear that fucking Céline Dion song.   Hugo 2011

  ★★★★½ Added

  The Invention of Hugo Cabret is one of my favorite, favorite books. Its illustrations (done in pencil) are remarkable, and bring out the story in a visual storyboard format. When I heard Scorsese was in charge of the adaptation, I figured it would be a slam dunk for him. Turns out I was right. It's excellent. The cast is terrific, it's well paced (if maybe a touch on the long side, for a film aimed at kids), and I could see people of most ages finding something to enjoy here.
