This one can be a bit tricky to recommend. It stars the late great Fred Ward as the titular character. This was supposed to be the beginning of a series of movies featuring the character Reno Williams, based on a popular series of novels that I have never read.

Earnest, quirky, and sweet. Eventhough this is not a slick, urban, Hollywood production, this movie has courage, audacity and a wild no-budget flare with lovable performances. Even the non-performances are unforgettable. The characters are unique and wholly original. They are drawn so clearly and defined with care and affection you can trust that Jared and Jerusha Hess cared about each one. There isn’t an ounce of cynicism or spite to found anywhere. I would instantly and enthusiastically recommend this to anyone who asks. But, sadly, for the time being the membership of those who have seen this are very small. This needs to change.

This is a movie I’ve been watching since I was a child. From then up to even now it has been an obsession of mine. I have more to say about it in time, but for now, I’ll just proclaim my love and fascination for this crazy little movie.
