Parasite 2019
It’s been a long time coming but now I’m here.
I am really impacted by social tension in movies, especially of the Talented, ‘Burn and now Parasite kind. Impacted to distraction. For short term tension, like Shutter Island when Teddy is roaming around in the dark, a few 15 second jumps forward establishes whether or when anything happens and I can then go back and watch in peace. Starship Troopers 1997
I’ve wanted to rewatch Starship Troopers since I saw Mickey 17. I watched it with my son on a dark night in Palm Beach (the power was off thanks to the storm); we had no water, but fortunately we found a can of Sprite and a zero beer.
I first saw Starship Troopers outdoors at the university quad during orientation. It’s undoubtably more fun with regular beer, but still a lot of fun with the zero. And I got what I wanted; Verhoven’s political commentary without the pantomime of 17.
I’m adopting “do you want to live forever?” as an interview question.
