Mickey 17 2025
Chocked full of philosophy and warnings about human hierarchy, but wrapped up in an easy to swallow package due to the lighter tone set throughout. Act 2 here is stellar in particular, and unfortunately the last third loses some steam. The last third needed to either commit harder to creating inspiring and clever action, or to fleshing out the ideas and moral questions pondered earlier on.

A basically perfect execution of a story that is too crazy and sad to believe. The narrative of seeing the success and bond of the brothers right before the series of tragedies that befall them makes it all hit so much harder. And then under that is the subtexts and ideas: Parents living their dreams vicariously through their kids, how men are “expected” to act by other men and themselves, what healthy masculinity really looks like, etc.
