When it was over, I just thought Uhhhh… okay??? It’s sort of a mess with all the useless side plots and the goofy ass stuff mixed in with the serious themes. I did laugh a couple times and thought that they did get sufficiently serious when they needed to at least.
But the message of this would sit really well at home with the Christian right: A woman’s purpose is to have kids! It was worth dying for 2 years…

A good inspiration to tell more stories to people, even if I’m just bullshitting them
A basically perfect execution of a story that is too crazy and sad to believe. The narrative of seeing the success and bond of the brothers right before the series of tragedies that befall them makes it all hit so much harder. And then under that is the subtexts and ideas: Parents living their dreams vicariously through their kids, how men are “expected” to act by other men and themselves, what healthy masculinity really looks like, etc.
