Blue Velvet is the greatest example I can think of to show people Lynch's genuine appreciation for the concept of rural Americana, whilst also underlying the deep darkness that exists beneath it.

I can't beging to describe how epic this film feels in the cinema. For something to be almost 4 hours long but still gripping throughout is an absolutely insane achievement. Truly a testament to the power of indie cinema.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful, subtle, striking and tragic pieces ever put to film. It brings me to floods of tears every time I watch it. Just a pure portrait of hidden suffering and how much we tend to miss the signs of something darker.

I'd go so far as to say this is empathy visualised.

God, realism is so pretentious. What's the point of making a film when nothing happens in it, to such an extent that it drives the audience into a lulled state of drowsiness? The acting was terrible, apparently that was the point, but really, why, the story non-existent and it was littered with asides that contributed nothing and leant to the overwhelming feeling that I was watching something that would not reward me for the time I was sinking into it.

Please don't make me watch another French New Wave film again, I beg of you.
