The Return of the Living Dead 1985
The perfect zombie movie.
Every five years or so I watch this movie and every time I'm still amazed by how genuinely good and fun and funny and cool and wonderfully yucky it is.
It gives us:
Gross practical effects ✅ Impeccable soundtrack ✅ Iconic lines ✅ Iconic wardrobes ✅ A genuinely unique version of zombie ✅ existential horror (It hurts to bed dead? Oh GOD!) ✅An absolute all time banger!

This movie is goofy as hell! I liked it because I like goofy movies (and also The Goofy Movie) but it was not at all what I expected-- especially knowing that it got some oscars.
Cher is gorgeous in this movie (and is hotter pre-makeover IMO but I'm gay) and absolutely runs circles around young hottie Nick Cage. I personally love that the beef between the brothers was that Nicky's character got distracted by his bro and cut his hand…

No one told me Speed Racer was like if DEBS had a bigger budget, minus the lesbians, plus the vroom vroom of Grease, but the zest of Grease 2, but then it's based on an anime!!! And I didn't know Speed Racer was the lad's literal legal name.

Night of the Creeps 1986
An incredibly yucky-fun mash-up homage that leans the hell in. Quite the good time movie with zingy one-liners and grodie good practical effects.
My only complaint is the funny bestie should've got the girl-- they had more chemistry! Main boy was a wet sponge, but he rallied and got us through to end. And, oh, what an end! :)
