  i could name 5 uncles of mine that talk like the people in this film and i don't even have 5 uncles.

  The dialogues strike a perfect balance between weaving in cliches that need to be there (because that's how middle-schoolers are - they talk from what they hear in movies) and good ol' mumblecore-esque rawness. I love how awkward the changes in topic are. I love how the characters are not written to be consistent and self-conscious, while still not relying on tropes of extremity (the innocent "new girl", the cool guy) - they are only as much of tropes as they imagine themselves to be!
