I didn’t pick to watch this movie and wasn’t really paying attention but even then I could tell it’s a disrespect to Will Forte and James Caan that they appeared in easily one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time, but it was exactly what you might expect from a Sandler and Samberg collaboration.
A Masterpiece from Chen Kaige (and really he is indebted to the 攝影 of Zhang Yimou). His restrained but piercing deployment of color contrasted against the inconsequential umber tones of the „yellow earth“ along with his depiction of vast, barren mountainsides, further intensified by the juxtaposition to the cramp and dimly-lit internal spaces creates a wholly surreal atmosphere out of a crippling reality.
