While I am not at all the hugest turn of the century literature fanatic, I am at least always mildly interested in the progression of classical works from bygone eras of American history. This movie was surprisingly good. It made me want to read the book. You can tell from all the pieces that came together- the costumes/wardrobe, the casting, the sets and locations, etc. - that the film was a labor of love by someone that truly cared for the source material. I thought it was lovely and look forward to watching more versions of this adaptation.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon 2021
So damn fun. It’s literally what if they made a Batman film in the 70’s co-starring Bruce Lee and featuring sequences straight out of Kung Fu, the Bond films and Shaft. What’s not to love?

Funky Forest: The First Contact 2005
This was the weirdest film I’ve seen in a long time. Mind boggling and odd and surreal and gross. I do not know why the Cronenberg/Burroughs body horror stuff was included but I loved it. What a fucking weird movie.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 2017
What a monster of a movie. Interesting. Brutal. Sad. Gory. Everything you could want for a modern take on grindhouse beyond Tarantino. Who knew Vince Vaughn could’ve easily played The Kingpin. Enjoyable AF. Solid ass action movie.
