Lodge Kerrigan’s Keane is a dark and unsettling study on a character who you aren’t sure is simply crazy or is a distressed person truly searching for a missing daughter. Damien Lewis turns in an intense performance in the lead role. His moments of wondering around aimlessly, often talking to himself, evoke a sense of realism for viewers who are mental health experts that may have firsthand experience dealing with people suffering from schizophrenia or post traumatic stress disorder. A neo noir thriller that largely flew under the radar when first released. Mike’s Murder is an extremely underrated film that has its haunting and tense moments. Winger is attractive and likable in the lead role. Darrell Larson turns in a convincing performance as Mike’s junkie friend. The score by John Barry (who largely replaced most of Joe Jackson’s music upon the film being re-edited) is effective. Let’s hope the original version surfaces sometime soon on a Blu-Ray release from a boutique label like Kino Lorber or Arrow Video.

From the get go, this one reminds one of a Cronenberg film, either David or Brandon. Has some elements of Cosmatos’ later film Mandy. The score has some echoes of Tangerine Dream. A stylish art house sci-fi thriller with plenty of psychedelic visuals, some gore, and a fine performance from the female lead. Highly recommended.

James L. Edwards is one of those names most people who closely follow microbudget, shot-on-video, indie and underground horror are familiar with. Having gotten his start in the productions of J.R. Bookwalter and Tempe Entertainment and collaborating with various rural Ohio based filmmakers, James has established himself as a respected name in the DIY gore and splatter world. Now James has taken on the job of directing.

His directorial debut is Her Name Was Christa. A creepy and perverse psychological…
