Fascinating choices.

I've mostly been watching fast genre films this year. Starting a 3 hour subtitled drama without a theater to keep me in my seat was a challenge. I'm glad I did. Every little moment of tedium and melodrama was paid for in surplus with wisdom, strangeness, and beauty. This is the kind of film that makes me grateful to be alive and connected to people, without feeling the need to layer on meaning that isn't there.

This is a propulsive, badass, smart crime thriller and Jeremy Saulnier's most accessible film. If you were grossed out by GREEN ROOM, don't let that deter you from watching this. It's a shame REBEL RIDGE didn't get a wide theatrical release. Stream it on Netflix.

What an achievement. There's so much that can go wrong when executing a vision like this but every important element was delivered upon. Simultaneously the brightest and darkest film I've seen in a while.
