Star Trek 2009
The first act is literally flawless. The second act is practically flawless. The third act is pretty damn good. The cast is beyond solid.
I want to deduct half a star because the success of this movie gave Disney the bright idea to let JJ Abrams absolutely lay waste to Star Wars, but that wouldn’t be fair. Sometimes though when I’m falling asleep at night, as I fade out of consciousness, I imagine a world in which JJ made Star Trek then immediately realized he would never surpass it and retired. Then I wake up and realize that just like Lost, it was all a dream.

This is a very difficult film to rate because it isn’t simply a 3-star movie throughout. There’s some legitimately impressive qualities, and at times it is somewhat of a powerhouse. Ewa Wants to Sleep 1958
This movie was a pleasure to watch. It is whimsical, romantic, and funny. Watching it for the first time, I felt like I'd seen it before. The humor reminded me of Airplane, but less crude. The feelings it stirred up were warm and nostalgic. Everything that happens is absurd but somehow also feels authentic.
