Finally a compelling answer to the age-old question, "What IS Canada?"
And an answer to a question no one ever asked, "What if Canada (except for Quebec of course) spoke Farsi?"

Despite the surreal setting it's still recognisably Canada: brutalist buildings, biting cold and of course, a Tim Hortons! Everything is different but the quintessence remains the same. Shades of Jacques Tati's Playtime abound in its whimsy and style.

    OKAY GO OFF QUEEN
What starts off as a domestic melodrama gradually morphs into the twistedly surreal.
Much of the film takes place in a home of some sort, which only serves to enhance the transgressive nature of the events; no space is safe!
I found it a bit plodding initially as I waited for it to get fucked up, but once it did...
Isabelle Adjani gives one of the GOAT horror performances and is decidedly unforgettable. Everyone talks about the subway scene but really, she's ate this whole film.

Is it the acting? No, Adrien Brody is brilliant in this, almost convincing you that you can search up László Toth on Wikipedia and find his full biography (think Tár).

Perhaps it's the screenplay? As far as works in the great genre of My American Dream Ended go, it's not exactly groundbreaking…

I had my Wicked era in high school. I estimate that I've listened to the cast recording upwards of 50 times. I read the novel, which my parents bought for me blissfully unaware of the orgy scene and other elements 2mature4-12-year-oldme. I devoured every half-watchable bootleg video on YouTube that was available to me at the time. And eventually, on the 16th of July, 2015, we went as an entire family to the Apollo Victoria Theatre in the West End,…
