  Should be sweeping every award, but instead, we’re left with Sean Baker’s weakest film and some atrocious-looking musicals. Still, films like this don’t need the approval of broken institutions—they endure, their power undeniable. Seminal work.

  If it succeeded in extracting some tears out of you, then it must've been good, yes? Not quite. Some really great sequences here—even inventive—like the plane crash, the snow storm, and the immediate aftermath of the storm. Everything else in-between is a real slog to get through and the unforgivable runtime exacerbates the punishment of sitting through generic presentation, needless melodrama, and predictable plotting before the actual rescue.
