a fascinating self critique of filmmakers and documentarians that you rarely ever see. i applaud him for creating from this point of view and having self awareness of what ills coming into a community under the gaze of a camera can bring.

however, the film did drag at many points. it was confusing for a good chunk what the main message was until the very end really.

i like jodo’s approach to art and collaboration. that was the best part of this. seeing these artists come together like the artistic avengers was rad. and the colorful world they created!

BUT… jodo completely botched Dune. he didn’t reading it, created his own world, and completely missed the point of the original Dune story. the world he created in itself is very cool, but he should just not call it Dune.

    -1 star for r*pe metaphor

a let down. i took a lot of initial intrigue in the plot but it became insufferable as the film went on because of its blatant orientalism and stereotyping. just two americans being culturally insensitive, what's new? the thing about loneliness is that you can be at home near everything that is familiar and still feel you are the last person on earth. you don't need to be cast in a faraway land to feel that and the film seems…
