this does a great job in showcasing something every African daughter has experienced: aunties being the biggest advocates and vessels for misogyny. the desire to make the "less than" beg, the unnecessary cruelty, the delight to lionize an abuser, solely because he's a man, rather than listen to or protect younger women. I felt rage bubbling inside me during so many sequences in this. truly excellent film and it makes me so happy seeing more African films distributed in the us :,)

wow, what a grand showcase of storytelling. the immigrant experience is a constant loop of suffering and rebounding. 3.5 hours of simultaneously feeling hopeful and dreadful – and I was 100% engrossed in every minute of it.

+ on top of all that, it looks absolutely stunning in 70mm and the score is nothing short of magnificent. a modern masterpiece.

I'd been so excited and filled with anticipation for MONTHS and now that I've finally watched, this completely deserves all the praise and more, especially Mikey Madison's performance!

Broken noses and tow truck mishaps and strip club beef and all the other shenanigans of their wild night made me laugh so loud, but then I got on the 5 train back to Brooklyn and immediately started crying. I really really really felt for Anora. Maybe this is me projecting and trauma…
