  Incredibly devastating and so beautiful. The scene where he first speaks is one of the most moving I've ever seen. Lynch's ability to show both the best and worst of humanity is really incredible. Mr. Treeves as a character was really interesting as well, I liked how he was made somewhat complicated as a savior who also had a stake in the elephant man-as-carnival-show. The self-reflection scene was great, and of course the scene with Merrick himself proclaiming his humanity to the mob. I'll be thinking of it often

  helicopter scene was crazy + incredible facial acting throughout. It's always nice to see a time when directors didn't feel the need to spell out every single emotion for the viewer.

  The Business of Birth Control 2021

  This could have been a much more compelling and interesting documentary, but it was not focused enough. I would have kept the main focus on the pharmaceutical industry and advertising of the pill (and other forms of birth control). It doesn't tell the story of today enough, either, where women can get birth control without a prescription and where IUDs/implants are becoming more common. I also would have liked a more medical explanation of the actual functions of birth control and exactly how it impacts your hormonal system. There was far too much footage of individual families and the Brooklyn nonprofit scene.

  I know everyone makes fun of the scene where she owns a lib, but honestly... it's necessary. I'm so tired of people pretending they are above the culture wars. They're real sorry! If every kid at Julliard never has to learn about the canon everything will suck. Also funny how just when they let the diverse backgrounds into the elite spaces they totally desecrate the point of those spaces in the first place.
