Mickey 17 2025
This movie is laden with so much painful dialogue, it erases any semblance of subtly. Most of us know capitalism has its problems. Mickey 17 tells us everything we already know, but just a little louder. Bong Joon Ho's crisp cinematography and editing allows him to get away with a lot here. This feels like it was written by a 14-year old.

Saw this in IMAX. One little detail I noticed that I never have before - his license plate at the end says "BLACK305" - the nickname Kevin gave him. In the beginning young Chiron asks Juan about a nickname that someone else gives Juan, and he replies:
"At some point, you gotta decide for yourself who you gonna be. Can't let nobody make that decision for you"By the end of the movie, Chiron still doesn't know what he wants…

In the Mood for Love 2000
It’s one of the best uses of pace as the main cinematic tool. The whole movie is set to a symphonic rhythm. It feels familiar in every scene, but is able to change so much hidden behind the repetition. The familiar is interweaved with incredibly fresh richness. Man, what a movie.

War movies are often critiqued as being trite for good reason - they always feel a need to make a strong, dramatic statement about the subject. 1917 is refreshing in that it avoids this almost completely.
