More interesting than Fantomas, although with these kind of silent serials you're inevitably bumping up against old film grammar. Still, glad to know the origin of so much of what I love in Irma Vep.

Lee has never been a super focused filmmaker, but even by his standards this is ridiculous. The problem is the main plot just is completely uninteresting, with Snipes and Sciorra doing the best work they can, but with no chemistry. Jackson and Turturro's plots are far better, and often feels like Lee would rather focus on them instead. Some great moments, but also perhaps the worst ending of the 90s.

The Last Temptation of Marilyn Monroe, or: The Autobiography of an Image.

Let me make a few disclaimers when I start talking about this film.

    1. I HAVE read the book this is based on, and I did not like it much, primarily because I find Oates' prose style to be hella annoying in it.

    2. I am firmly of the belief that nobody should experience any art that they don't have to. Please do not feel like you should…

Hysterically disturbing. I have no idea if "Alan Resnick" is a real person or not, but this is one of my favorite performances of the year, and disturbing in all the right ways. Just watch it for yourself.
