Martyrs 2008

I really enjoyed the psychological impact of this movie. It wasn’t scary in my opinion but it did a great job developing suspense especially regarding Luciè’s ptsd from leaving the girl. It’s twisted and I loved the way they developed themes of childhood trauma, and resilience. The director included lots of gore but in a way that you know it’s fake (similar to saw) which I thought was great especially for 2008. Martyrs was the type of movie you watch one time, think that it’s great (especially since it broke the glass ceiling for french horror) and never watch again.
