All I could ask for from a horror movie. Beautifully shot, the sound design was excellent, and I cared about the characters. This movie has the best jump scare I've ever seen in my life. But there are a few problems, the movie is pretty rushed, which is better than slow and dragged out, but it did seem like they were just crossing off a bunch of checkpoints from a list. Some of the monsters were just not scary whatsoever and even laughable. But for horror movie standards, this is a great step in the right direction.
I reject the notion that all movies have to have some sort of happy moment to make the audience feel good. I believe true art makes the audience feel strong emotions. This movie is Fear. It's agonizing to watch these seemingly never ending scenes that make you uncomfortable, but that's exactly what they wanted you to feel.
