Terrible film. Narrative could have benefited from being told in Sopranos/GoT style long form series or even a limited miniseries.
The scenes did not fit together. Narrative suffered because every sequence was interrupted by seemingly unimportant scenes with no bearing on story. The basic story is “man hates father” with layers of political, ethnic, historical, etc. nuance attached. However the several plot lines, A and B plots, interpersonal, crime thriller, romance, and more, were all muddled and confused with each…

Raising Arizona 1987
This is the most perfectly written comedy of all time. It’s better than Blazing Saddles (not by much), it’s better than Airplane, it’s better than The Jerk, Blues Brothers, Animal House, any Monty Python, etc.
The only comedy that surpasses it is Looney Tunes, but that’s only because Raising Arizona was filmed with living humans that simply don’t have the same metaphysical talent as Bugs Bunny.
Watch this movie if you want to laugh.
