Thought I’d rewatch this today to see if my thoughts on it have changed now that I’ve seen La Cocina. Still a wonderful debut feature (better than Reservoir Dogs😈). Another one that I kinda misunderstood when I was younger. Not that there aren’t “hangout” aspects to this films story, but I never realized just how much social commentary there is at play here that I guess went over my head back then. Some of the most beautiful B&W cinematography I’ve ever seen, Ruizpalacios and cinematographer Damián García make some downright striking images together. I gotta do a double feature of this and Roma someday.
