maybe this is being rated lower because I've seen so much Bergman recently, but this did not feel like one of his strongest films. I understood the message and enjoyed the movie for that purpose, but thought that the neutrality of war portrayal weakened the shameful actions made by the characters in some ways. I felt it was inaccurate to the feelings of real, normal people

one of bergman's most brutal movies I've seen, and one of the most powerful too despite my lack of comprehension at some points. I also love Sven Nykvist's styled lighting and cinematography in this movie, it punches the movie past the screenplay and into a new kind of art

good movie, less and more than I expected. I think this movie does a good job of showcasing the struggles that come with poor communication, trying/lying to fit in, and inward angst being pushed onto those around you even when you do love them deep down. not a normal plot line, but still felt like it came full circle. I would’ve enjoyed more of an ending where we got to see him growing up more, but he pushed himself to be at least a bit vulnerable so it still was pretty satisfying.

perfect blend of comedy and thriller. if you like chaotic movies with social commentary, check this out. imagine Luigi Mangione but if had access to scripted meth and books on aliens
