Rewatch for Gene Hackman tribute episode. Wow, this movie has aged really well. Hackman is just absolutely at peak levels here. His Little Bill is such a complex villain. Is he a villain or just a sheriff good at keeping order? How is he more of a villain than Eastwood's character? All that moral ambiguity is what makes Westerns at their best such a perfect genre to explore the American character.

Lesser Bong but still fun. My biggest issue was the overtly happy ending. It actually ticked me off. I would have been way more satisfied if they left the planet or were all killed by the aliens, which they deserve for going there to begin. The whole "and we lived in happy harmony with the aliens" ending just unnerved me. And talk about science fiction to think humans would live harmoniously with others.
