  I so easily rooted for their romance. This short achieves what 2-hour films fail to do in 14 minute and honestly achieves it within the first two minutes of the film. A character who you immediately know deserves the love that they are afraid to lean into and you spend the whole film with your own yearning begging her to reach and take it. I love this, this isn’t an easy feat to achieve but it is done effortlessly.

  It hurts me to say this film was bad. I wanted more than anything for this to be a masterpiece but it wasn’t even good enough to call it mediocre. Everything from the scriptwriting to the editing failed the magnitude of its narrative, character and setting decisions. The performances from the main characters though, offered it some saving grace. 

  Rafiki was an awkward, ill-conducted mess of a film and that really hurts.
