Love that I can openly say that Oppenheimer ain‘t it. At least for me. A 3 hour expositiory dialogue courtroom drama with very little new or profound to say. But because Nolan works with the best sound editors and mixers in town, the whole thing gets to feel important and big. The shot-reverse-shot talk-without-breaks play captured in beautiful close ups by Hoyte van Hoytema is really just that: An overblown trick elaborately put together by grand trickster Nolanito. But the…
I've never usually been this cynical about Marvel movies. I've always been aware that it's escapism meant to entertain. And escapist cinema has its merit, especially superhero movies can offer a lot of excitement. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films come to mind, because they offered great formal freshness, marked by a stylistic signature and an authentic simplicity that studios tend to avoid these days. No longer is a character allowed to just whack some villains in his microcosm, no, instead multiple…
I feel like this film could have been even better if Tarsem Singh were a better director. He absolutely gets the power of moving images and I adore the way this film made me totally fall in love with cinema- like seriously this shit is just a constant flex. But I think I‘d prefer this if it didn’t try so hard. The most obvious Beethoven piece, the sometimes really bad writing- it’s excusable because in the end, this a fairytale from a childs POV and yes, it absolutely made me emotional. Catinca Utaru was unbelievable.
First Altman! Love to see it! Great main character, Marlow is legit one of the coolest protagonists around. The film has some of the chillest LA vibes you can possibly experience in cinema. Great triple feature with Inherent Vice and Under the Silver Lake. Great mix of hilarious and tragic. Don’t mess with losers.
You know, when you consider how much these people get paid to make something this embarrassingly awful, you ought to get a little mad. At least at the fuckheads who think releasing this is even remotely acceptable.
I could go on and on about the state of hollywood and whatever and how we reached the nadir of mainstream cinema (because let’s be honest- it’s really about the dire state of blockbuster filmmaking) but I’m too tired and Madame Web really…
Exactly what you’d expect from a Illumination Mario movie. Some of the laziest writing ever. They didn’t even care because they knew how much bank it’ll make. Totally superfluous game advertisement with some proper setpieces. Incredibly unfunny. It’s basically a remix of every movie ever made. Even the song choices are lazy. This honestly felt like a movie that came out 10 years too late.
