Even for Zemeckis this can be so schmaltzy at times it can take you right out of what is otherwise a cool concept executed mostly well. I thought Paul Bettany's performance as the embittered alcohol soaked father unhappy with how hie life has turned out kind of saves this from just careening off into meaninglessness.
