This film GOES HARD. Delightful in the ways that it denies and provides context. It kept me curious and questioning but I was never confused. I loved how it presented the spirituality vs science duality with such clear perspective, yet also seemed to poke holes in that duality altogether. Really unique in its way of asking fundamental questions about place and the universe, whom it belongs to, who belongs to it, and how we make use of (and meaning around)…

An unsuccessful Safdie ripoff that does little to subvert the middle-aged male gaze, even though it pretends (I think?) to be doing otherwise. Predictable, lacks character development, and reinforces more stereotypes than it dispels. Is Baker telling us that women (read: sex workers) begin to *get in touch with themselves* by finding a "strong and caring” older male savior? Okay. A small thing, but also irritated by the trope of Ani’s catty dynamic with her co-worker at the club.

Luscious, GORGEOUS, simultaneously reserved and generous – maybe distractingly so. I had trouble following the plot because I found myself so deep in the visuals. A highly enjoyable watch, nonetheless.
