Battle for the Planet of the Apes 1973
So they finally managed to tue together this sprawling series. Went through a few speed bumps and even managed to end on a hopeful T2-esque “no fate but what you make” ending. I’m honestly impressed. They even went out of their way to explain the mutant human civilisation from Beneath. I appreciated that. Virgil quotes the scientist from Escape, from which we also see the recorded clips of Cornelius and Zira. They definitely made the effort to create a finality…

A slick dark comedy that really epitomises that genre. It starts slow and very much like a murder mystery or slasher horror (which was strange coming after Glass Onion) so the way the humour and almost parodic style the characters are written feels really dissonant.
