I watch a lot of LGBT Cinema, and I am thoroughly used to the tired trope of gay panic and wrestling with your sexuality. This movie is another iteration of the same trope. And yet, I still appreciate it.
Maybe I'm not a good connoisseur of great acting or script writing. Maybe I just look past it. The reality is that this movie touched something in my psyche. Yes, I've seen this story played out so many times before. But this one felt real to me.
This is such a stupid movie. And I loved it.
It's basically if a bunch of Hispanic filmmakers got together to make a Quentin Tarantino tribute, without telling Robert Rodriguez they were doing it.
I loved the different facets of my culture being celebrated and highlighted.
This movie is stupid, on purpose. It's camp, ridiculous, and I don't think it takes itself seriously. That being said, I still think it tried, with greater intentionally, more than other LGBT movies I've seen.
This movie is not perfect. But I was entertained, and I enjoyed it. I was excited to see Supremme de Luxe in a movie, and then throw in La Agrado from Todo Sobre Mi madre?
Worth it.
Don't take this too seriously. Just sit back and enjoy.
There were many times where I found myself snapping back to consciousness and being astounded that this movie was still dragging on. One of the main characters is so absolutely annoying and obnoxious, it was a pain to listen to him for as long as I did.
