More like a vampire-flavoured horror flick. Nosferatu comes back as a mixture of freddy mercury and klaus kinski but still does the job. Everything else is more or less vehicle for further jumpscares, some nice supporting performances aside. Eggers is good at the folklore bits, but there wasn’t much space for that; instead, we were left with incredibly boring costume dialogues and defoe explaining everything to us in the end.
Really can’t wait until the bland ass pale landscapes die out. And the same goes for you, Lily Rose Depp: retire soon bb, we won’t be missing you.

y’all have to be the same guys who five star all of the marvel movies because how is this nonsense bearable. plot and dialogues could as well be chatGPT’d from any of the thousand identical already existing drama series, except for the fact that in this one they tried not only to fit as much violence and sex as they can, but also a ridiculous amount of seppukus

Opening Night 1977
Loved the depth of the characters!! Made me realise that what usually strikes me as ‘dumbed down’ is precisely when characters get over explained. Cassavettes makes you believe you really are observing an episode in the lives of existing people and leaves you wondering about their motives just like in real life. And at the same time the story has something magical and mystical in the sense that I never once thought she was just crazy: I really understood what she was going through and the story made me feel for her. All in all stunning
